First Love Part 1. Eng Subs. Even if you have to read my commentary first, just watch it. It is made of gold and crack.
First Love burns so good. It feels so right and yet is so wrong. I am talking, of course, of the Banjun Drama that starred Yuhno and Yoochun back in the day. As if written by a brilliant and perverted fangirl forced to work under the typical restraints of K-dramas starring pop idols, First Love seems to be a statement on repressed sexuality. Indeed, unless I am mistaken, given my western gaze, there is a whole lot of kinky going on.
First up, we meet our heroine, Jung Hye Bin, who doesn't have much of a personality, she's not too bright, she's mousy and as, it's pointed out, average-looking. She exists to be the conflict between the two male leads and if this was a comic book, she would have been killed off. She is still somewhat fridged, but we'll get to that later. Hye Bin has an oral fixation and we meet her sucking on a huge ass lollipop, which wouldn't seem out of place as an eight year old, but here she is at least sixteen. Nearly falling out of an overcrowded bus, she is saved just in the nick of time by Yoochun in his incarnation as sweet, chivalrous loverboy.
Yes, this man.

He catches her and they stare into each other's eyes for RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF TIME JFC and then (if you blink, you'll miss it) she smiles coyly and MOUTHS THE FUCKING LOLLIPOP I DO NOT LIE. Meanwhile, this is the Rising Sun era, therefore, Yoochun is looking a little androgynous. YES WITH THAT ADAM'S APPLE SHUT UP OKAY.

They're walking to school. Not quite together, he's kind of lingering behind her. The way I see it at this point, Yoochun has had his shot, so he has no right to balk when Yunho takes the initiative. However, if he had asked her out, this would be a Yoochun romance drama with possible OMG KISSING and we know how those end: with suicide threats and the negative locked in the vaults for all eternity. We need something to keep these two attractive kids from making out. We need conflict. We need...
Yunho. Yunho is incredibly UNF in this drama. He is so UNF that he causes the feminist part of my brain to completely shut down as well as other parts of my brain that say, "Wait, a BDSM relationship in high school? WTF!" Just go with it, because Yunho, the nicest man on the planet, does, and he does so much sexy with the little that he's given that it's astounding. Yunho is an awesome actor. There. I said it. Haters 2DaLeft.
Yunho is like the anti-bad boy here. Supposed Nice Guy Yoochun does nothing about the rampant bullying going on, but Yunho rides up on his crotch rocket like some sort of DARK KNIGHT of SEXY and busts up the bullying ring with his basketball and taekwondo WITHOUT EVEN NOTICING THE GIRL. He runs right past her, like he rescues nerds every day, not to impress her, BUT BECAUSE IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO, DAMMIT. Yunho, despite his questionable dating practices in this drama, is, at every turn, THE HERO, and when push comes to shove, he'll even save his rival. THAT is why he is leader-sshi. Even "out of character", he is awesome.
Anyway, Yunho asks for Hye Bin to toss the ball to him. She does, and she breaks the rearview mirror on his bike. Before he can, er, extract payment from her, she's off and running. In her hurry, she leaves a shoe behind, which Yoochun kneels to pick up. YES, JUST LIKE FUCKING CINDERELLA, I KID YOU NOT WHEN I SAY THIS STUFF IS CRACKTASTIC. However, at that moment, Yoochun and Yunho lock eyes. Shit is about to get real between the Pimp and the Ho. You'd think they'd done this before.
Oh, wait.
But that's another story. Back to the subject at hand, we have tardy and half-shoeless Hye Bin being cowed by the PRETTY, dominatrix-like TEACHER, who has pretty much pussy-whipped everyone in the school into submission except for Yunho and Yoochun, despite her best efforts. When having to decide where to put our hapless heroine, she refuses to put them next to "handsome" Yunho, or, in yet another in a series of cracks at Yoochun's masculinity, the "pretty-boy". At this point, it is fairly obvious that Yunho has the hots for Hye Bin, but strangely enough, much less so that Yoochun does. Indeed, Yoochun is pretty passive in this scene. Finally, Ms. Dominatrix exits stage left.
Hye Bin's milkshake brings all the boys to her desk (DAMN RIGHT IT'S BETTER THAN YOURS) except Yoochun, who COMPLETELY WITHDRAWS and practically ignores her until Yunho strides up and asserts his dominance (because dammit, someone has to get the ball rolling). Yunho parts the crowd of schoolboys LIKE MOSES PARTING THE MOTHERFUCKING RED SEA because he's gotta parple like that, slams his hands on her desk, leans in real REAL close and sets his plan in motion, ostensibly, to extract payment for his wounded motorcycle. Come to the gym after school.

Cut to: Masked kumdo duelers, one in white, one in black. You can probably guess which one is which. But if you read between the lines here, it's not so binary, especially when you take Hye Bin's final choice into consideration. After the duel to a draw (foreshadowing!), Hye Bin shows up and is confronted by Yunho. Moar kinkiness ensues when Yunho proposes a bargain: since she has no money to pay for the repairs to his bike, she will be his servant TO DO HIS EVERY BIDDING YES THIS IS HIGH SCHOOL OMG. And it is here, at 8 minutes, 45 seconds into the first part, that Yunho owns my soul.
"Even if you don't like me, I'll still want to see you."
He says it in such a vulnerable way, it almost sounds like a plea, and it is incredibly sexy in his bass. If I were in high school and in her place, I would have grabbed him by the collar, thrown him onto whatever flat surface I could find, ripped that uniform off of him and gone to fucking town. YES, MASTER.
Anyway, he starts out with a mundane order, but you know that he's just softening her up for the rough stuff. Clean up the gym, he says, even though there are janitors for that sort of thing, I would imagine. If you watch closely, you can see Yoochun in his white uniform exit with the others as she is left to clean up after them. He comes back, though, and, after dropping to his knees, silently slips her missing shoe back onto her foot, then leaves her to clean up the mess by herself. YEAH, THANKS A LOT ASSHOLE.
